Conservation Center for Art and Historic Artifacts

An interesting resource I ran across through the ARLIS listserv today!
Statue of Liberty postcards from Ellis Island

"CCAHA specializes in the treatment of art and historic artifacts on paper and provides preservation education, training, and consultation.  Established in 1977, CCAHA is one of the largest nonprofit conservation facilities in the country."

CCAHA is having a number of interesting events this fall, including a "Care and Preservation of Textiles" training program in September 2012 and a program in November called "The Next Chapter: Rare Books in Modern Times." Conservators from all over the US will participate, including participants from Winterthur, the New York Public Library, and the Morgan Library and Museum.

Exciting News for the Digital Public Library of America

‘Library of the Future’ Gets $1-Million Boost From Humanities Endowment

An article in the Chronicle of Higher Education announces an NEH grant for the Digital Public Library of America. The DPLA project, scheduled to launch in April 2013, has struggled with complex issues of copyright, collaboration, and content.  The NEH grant will help a pilot project to engage state (or regional) level "hubs" according to the director of the governing body for the Digital Public Library, Maura Marx.

Recovery of a Rare 415-year-old Wytfliet Atlas Reveals Horrible Story of Theft and Betrayal

Rare 415-year-old Wytfliet Atlas stolen from the Royal Library of Sweden recovered at NYC gallery

From a Yahoo News SlideShow
ArtDaily.org reports a story from the Associated Press about the Wytfliet Atlas, a 1597 manuscript by Cornelius van Wytfliet that was stolen from the Royal Library of Sweden by the chief of its manuscripts department.  Anders Burius stole at least 55 books from the Royal Library during his tenure there from 1995 to 2004.  He confessed in 2004 and later committed suicide.

The atlas was being offered for sale by a New York map dealer, who had purchased it from Sotheby's in 2000.  When the truth about the manuscript's provenance was revealed, the dealer turned the book over to the Royal Library.

Job Hunting Resources

Hiring Librarians Blog was suggested by one of my fellow Emporia State University MLS students.  It includes some good tips for applications, interviews, and resumes.

Library Jobline has position listings and good resources.
